Rotating Home: Sit & Spin in California

tophouse_home.jpg

The rotating house atop Mt. Helix in San Diego County California has been written up many times, most recently by Erin Biba of Wired Magazine. The owners are Al & Janet Johnstone. It seems Al Johnstone was a former Bell Labs employee. (Those who regularly read us, know of our interest in the Bell Labs). So we had to add our names to the list of admirers.

This unique home rotates a full 360 degrees. The adjustable speed will go from a leisurely 1 rotation per day to a seemingly dizzying once around every 30 minutes. (I wonder if Marlow Harris over at 360 Digest & Unusual Life covered this?). The ingenious design has 2 patents. One surely has to be the way the plumbing, electrical & other lines into the house don’t get wound up like a ball of twine. Cost after 6 years: $1 million. The views: Priceless.

Like it? The Johnstones will build you one. Their website is RotatingHome.com. Go visit and spin awhile.
