From Meme to You

Life isn’t enough. One life isn’t enough for me. There aren’t enough days. Too many things to do, too many ideas. Every sunset upsets me because another day is gone. Nicola Lorusso, from Mediterraneo.

I was meme tagged by Jim Cronin of the Real Estate Tomato. A meme (rhymes with dream) is a catch phrase representing a contagious idea that spreads virally in a culture, like transparency, Web 2.0, Long Tail or maybe unzillowable. The word comes from the Greek meaning “mimic”. In the blogosphere, it’s a game of topic tag. You answer the topic question and pass it on to others to do the same. Either way, I’m game and thank you Jim for thinking of me. The meme is 5 Things You May Not Know About Me:

1. I grew up in Staten Island, NY, was an altar boy, and wanted to be a priest. I attended Catholic schools through high school and was an A student. Needless to say, I have very nice penmanship. (wow that’s 6 already)
2. My hobbies include writing, photography and soldering glass candleboxes. I was a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and sold my boxes at juried art shows and street fairs.box.jpg
3. Some things I really enjoy: the music of Frank Zappa, lyric poetry, Canasta, foreign films, & Indian food. Movies I can watch over and over: Some Like It Hot, Mediterraneo, and It’s A Wonderful Life. The last great film I saw was City of God. Every year I read Chuang Tzu (Burton Watson translation).

4. My idea of a perfect summer day: Fishing in the bay with my wife and son, then going out to pick (eat) blue crabs, with a bucket of “rocks”, at Waterman’s in Ocean City, Maryland.

5. If I didn’t become a lawyer, I would have gone to art school and opened an art gallery.

If you want to know more, you’ll have to get me drunk.

  • I'm not sure that the terms soldering glass candleboxes and alter boy have ever before been used in a single blog post. Very enlightening! Thanks for sharing and joining the meme.
  • Joseph, yours is much better than mine.
    G.
  • Canasta!!!! CANASTA!!!!! Oh, man, I didn't know anyone else knew how to play canasta. Which version do you play? Traditional or hand and foot? A true gentleman that plays a true gentleman's parlor game. I am sooooo impressed, truly I am!
  • Zappa - always on my potential playlist. Great meme.
  • I haven't played canasta in 20 years. We used to play on family vacations. Good memories.
  • Traditional. I was taught the game by my mother-in-law. We are big game players---backgammon, chess, Rummikub, dominoes.
  • Jim,

Hanan Levin of grow-a-brain is also a Zappa fan. "The crux of the biscuit is the apostrophe."
  • Isn't it funny how the arts keep making their way into these memes?

I bet it would be interesting to see what other lawyers would do... had they not become lawyers... :)

    Thanks for the insight.
  • What have you guys started???
  • Now I know where good writing skills come from. :)
  • wow! I can't beleive how your little meme is getting around! It has actually been a lot of fun, but I still hope that at some point I can get off the internet and go Christmas shopping.
  • I love crabs, that picture makes me hungry. My family and I used to go on vacation and do crab fishing in Galveston, TX when I was young.
  • I used to go fishing in Glaveston every year too.

P.S. - that candle is beautiful! you should still sell them!
  • I do sell the candleboxes. Agents have purchased them as house warming gifts.
