Rudolph the Red Nosed Meme

Greg from Blueroof blog tagged me for an Emmy Meme. It’s kind of a chain letter with a specific topic that people pass to one another. The topic of this meme is:

5 Things you don’t know about me

1. Many moons ago, my wife Sara and I met during spring break on the beach in Fort Lauderdale. Is that cliche or what?

2. Sara and I made a bet – if it’s a boy, she would get to name our first child. If it was a girl, the decision would be all mine. Our daughter Summer Mari was born 2.27.06. As you can tell, I won. We have agreed that Sara will have veto power for the next one.

3. I love the outdoors. Whether it’s hiking along the Appalachian trail in the Shawangunks, fishing in the Catskill mountains of Roscoe New York – trout town U.S.A., hunting in the Clearwater National Forest in the northern Idaho Wilderness, Skiing the back country in Utah, sightseeing through the southern Florida everglades on an airboat or just having a campfire underneath the stars, I love it all.

4. I love to cook and do so most of the time. If I didn’t, I could eat italian and chinese food every other day. Some of my favorite dishes include a passed down family recipe for Hungarian chicken paprikas, slow roasted honey pork tenderloin with sweet cabbage and garlic mashed potatoes, honey garlic venison medallions with homemade dill sauce and roasted potatoes and onions, chicken pallards with marsala sauce and fettucine and fusion teriyaki steak.

5. Favorite snack: A Lindt Swiss milk chocolate bar.

Bonus: In my high school and college days, I used to be a DJ. I still have a few thousand vinyl records in storage.

I will pass the meme torch to:

Noah Rosenblatt of Urban Digs

Craig Newmark of Craigblog / Craigslist

Barbara Corcoran of Barbara Corcoran Blog

Hanan Levin of Grow-a-Brain

Lockhart Steel of Curbed

All you need to do is write 5 things we don’t know about you on your blog and pass the meme along to someone else.

Happy Meme everyone!

  • danilo - most of what i have on vinyl are not available on cd. they are far too precious to part with.
  • Depends on what kind...not all vinyl has been converted to digital and some will never be. Many dj's are throwing away their record collections before seeing if they can get the same music in a different format - oops! Less supply with increased demand makes somes worth much more than just $1.

But even if you only get $1, that's not bad considering how much use you've gotten out of them and how many you may have. Could add up to airfare to Europe on a rainy day!

It's nice to see an ex-dj with a vinyl collection still in his possession!
  • You can still find vinyl at yard sales, $1 a piece is the going rate.
  • Very good friends of mine own a record store in Washington, DC that caters to local club dj's as well as well known dj's stopping through the city on tour.

Sad to say, but vinyl is starting to be a thing of the past. Though you should definitely hold on to your records - they may be a collectors item soon. Can anyone say "Antique Road Show"?
  • phil - i added your blog to my feedreader and will be more than happy to send you some feedback.
  • Glad you enjoy my blog. Come back anytime.

And please let me know what you think of the book. I'm always looking to make it even greater.
  • phil - seasons greetings to you too! the holidays are a special time indeed. my favorite time of the year by far.

i enjoyed your blog and look forward to reading your book. stay well.
  • Cute kid, and fun sharing! I think in your comment you hit upon the reason this spread: the holidays are a GREAT time to connect with new friends. Thanks for taking part. Seasons greetings!
  • REBlogGirl - summer is blushing. sounds like a plan!

terry - not a problem. isn't this meme thing just the perfect thing for the holidays? it's spreading like wildfire. the whole community is coming together in a unprecedented way. can you feel the love?

hey, a thousand vinyl records is a great collection. i can't seem to part with mine either. I did however pass down my two 1200 turntables to my brother in law. happy holidays to you as well!

ann - thanks. you're so kind! I must say, I totally agree with you. I haven't had the chance to read all the memes that have been spreading but the ones I have read really are fabulous. this is what blogging is all about. connecting with people and getting to know them. it really is special. i love it!
  • I agree -- very sweet little pumpkin! Nice photo.

I love this meme -- helps you know people on a whole 'nuther level.

    : )
  • Thanks for the link! (I seem to have been combined with Drew as this meme moves along). I was a DJ in college too - although I "only" accumulated about 1,000 vinyl records (which for some reason I just can't let go of, despite the fact I do not have a record player anymore). A few thousand is most impressive! All the best and Happy Holidays.
  • Wow, what an adorable daughter you have. I have an 18 month old son and he's looking for a date. I say we play Yenta.
