Bert Sperling of Sperling Best Places has updated his “Best and Worst Cities to Sleep“. The 2006 findings were based on analysis of data from the CDC, Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau. For better or worse, here’s Bert’s List:

Best Cities to Sleep

1. Anaheim, CA
2. Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA
3. Raleigh-Durham, NC
4. Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN (no wonder TB looks so well rested)
5. Chicago, IL (they tossed & turned last night: Colts: 29 Bears: 17)
6. Pittsburgh, PA
7. San Diego, CA
8. Miami, FL
9. Greensboro-Winston Salem-High Point, NC
10. Bergen-Passaic, NJ

Worst Cities To Sleep

1. Atlanta, Georgia
2. Nashville, TN (too many musicians?)

4. New York City (of course, it’s “The City That Never Sleeps”)
5. St. Louis, MO
6. Detroit, MI

9. Baltimore, MD
10. Cleveland, OH

  • 2:43 AM and I find this....I'll never get to sleep now...and I thought it was me.. It's Columbus.
  • When the temperature is below zero, what else is there to do? It's not like we can actaully go outside.
  • The lull of the fog horns, and the ships horns in the bay, reverberate throughout Long Beach CA at night. It is a most comforting sound. That combined with the sea air and mild temps do tend to knock you out. No surprise that it would make this list.
  • I'm surprised Los Angeles made it on this list under the best cities to sleep - it's so loud there all night long! Depends on the location, I guess...
