I love books. Always will. One of my habits is writing notes in the margins. Must be a habit born of my school textbooks. Anyway, you can leave notes and comments on any web page using Jump Knowledge (jkn.com). It’s a free service.

How does it work? Simple. Just go to jkn.com and type in the web page URL you want to annotate… OR…

Add the Jump Knowledge toolbar icon to annotate any page you’re on with a click. (works with Firefox and IE)

What to do with your Annotated Web Pages

After annotating the page or pages, you can email, print or save them (I like that)– even link them back to your blog or website. Here’s what the Options look like (I pick save):

You can even post your annotation to social bookmarking and news sites like digg and Netscape:

If you want to post to your blog (or website) click “All others” and just copy and paste the code generated.

Some other cool things about JK

  • your annotations displace the text, so your comments are read in context
  • results are seen immediately. Editing and deleting are easy.
  • add comments to as many web pages as you like
  • your annotated pages are saved at the site for future emailing/use (love this feature)
  • email pages using your own email system
  • use soft links (brackets) to cross reference other annotated pages like this.
  • your annotations are indexed on Google. This I have to see.

Here is a web page I annotated using Jump Knowledge:

Blogger comment tool: use Jump Knowledge to post your comments right into a blog post.

You can even post it as a comment with a link to your annotation page.

Real Estate Agent Tool: Take a listing and insert your comments where appropriate. Email it to your clients and impress them with your tech know-how.

Nice Update: Thanks to Real Estate Business Success for pointing out the cool Jump Knowledge “annotate buttons“. Add them to your blog or website to give your readers the ability to share your blog post or web page. The buttons can go in your sidebar and look like this:
