How Craigslist and Blogging are Similar

DB103.gif

If you’ve ever been to Craigslist, I’m sure you’re familiar with their chronological display of listings. If not here’s how it works on Craigslist:

  • All listings are displayed in chronological order - Newest to Oldest
  • As a new listing is inputted, your listing gets bumped down a notch on the list
  • Soon, your listing is off the main page on lost in craigspace
  • People hate that so they Re-post the same ad over and over in order to maintain top position
  • This creates what some call overposting / re-posting of listings

Now, if you are reading this, I’m sure you know how a Blog works. If you’re still unsure, here’s a rundown:

  • All Blog posts are displayed in chronological order - Newest to Oldest
  • As a new post is inputted, your last post gets bumped down a notch on the list
  • Soon, a great post you created 5 days ago may now be on page 2
  • Most people rarely go to page 2 of a Blog so you’re great blog post is now in page2land
  • That’s about it for the general similarities

So, who cares you may ask? I’m not sure if anyone does but thought it was an interesting comparison.

Bloggers however, may differ a bit with Craigslist posters in the sense that although it would be ridiculous to repost the same post on your own blog, they may have a bit of an itch they have to scratch syndrome. This itch is the need to post something of value on their blog everyday. In some instances it may even be called an addiction. I hear stories all the time about how obsesssed people are with finding new things to post on their blog and how it may interfere with their normal daily routine. That of course is not the case with us :) Honestly, we like blogging and never feel it’s a burden rather a release or therapy so to speak.

So if you’re a blogger, do it with passion. BLOG ON!

Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something.

    One major difference.

Craigslist exists solely for the proliferation of flamers and trolls. I never understood why people go there and subject themself to adolescent abuse.

Blogs are (or can be) a real expression of something.

    Mike,

You are entitled to your opinion. I guess you’re not a fan of blogs. Thanks for stopping by anyway.
