Joe and Rudy
My old partner and I reunited to teach a blogging class, hosted by the Long Island Board of Realtors (LIBOR), the largest local REALTOR Board in the whole darn country, serving Nassau, Suffolk and Queens counties, New York. We blabbed about blogging all day and surely added some more bloggers to the ranks in New York. Watch out California and Florida, New York’s comin’ to get ya. As they say in Brooklyn,
Thanks to Beth O’Connor, Director of Technology Training for organizing the class and inviting us to speak. And thanks to all the folks who showed up (and stayed awake).

Great job guys! Thanks for all the insight into blogging. I look fwd to hearing from you soon.

It was a great day all around! We also dropped some knowledge on how to use Social Networking effectively to increase your sphere of influence and pipeline.
One of the best.Great ideas- will look into video/polling/better title// and other social media sites. If possible could there be a class for people who already have a working blog? Possibly new people in morning and people with blogs in afternoon?. bob
Another thought-BecauseI have a blog I have quickly been accepted and invited to many community organizations and events- for example on May 4th our local fire deparment is hosting an antique car show at a local beach. I will be taking pictures for them and my gallery. At the event I will meet scores of people-many of them know we are in real estate . The fact that a blog exists is important. But maybe the personal involement of a blogger within a community may be equally important. Another important issue to consider. We have done charity and community events for years. Long before getting into real estate. Some peo9ple may use a charity just for business. Give some thought to motive. again thanks for the training. Bob Hyne
Thanks Erik and Robert.
I really enjoyed connecting and sharing with all the folks in class. As you point out Bob, blogging makes for more networking and connecting with people face-to-face, where all the magic really happens. If you are behind your computer screen all day churning out blog posts and don’t get in front of real people, then you are not maximizing blogging’s potential, or your own as a real estate professional. (A “virtual” handshake or smiley face will never replace the real thing.) Blogging opens doors, but you have to walk through them.
Robert,
Good idea on the 2 classes. We’d love to do it.
Rudy,
It was great to do another road show with you.
I’m confused, which one is the “old blogging” partner?
Happy Blogging. Real estate professionals now add another item to the list of “what we do” - reporter of sorts. I like Roberts comment about using his blog as an invitation getter. That is always better than “crashing.”
What a great day spent with both of you Joe and Rudy, learned so much I couldn’t wait to get started. You opened a whole new world for me and you had enough material for a few days worth of lectures. Great use of you always available camera. Love the photo. Hope our happy trails cross again. It was great seeing both of you.
I bet it was fabulous!
“Watch out California and Florida, New York’s comin’ to get ya.”
I betcha on a per capita basis, Arizona just might be the epicenter of real estate blogging…
Wanna see another way blogging works?
From an email I got a couple of hours ago:
“Our daughter is finishing ASU and we have her sweet condo to sell. I saw your name in the Tribune, and was led to contact you. Can we talk?”
The Tribune is a local paper. The only reason they know I exist, and call often, is via the blog. And apparently people still read the papers and perceive value in people quoted in them as “authorities”.
And some people say blogging is a waste of time…..
Jay,
I’m a recent convert, as a matter of fact I was too nervous to jump in until Joe and Rudy’s class on Friday. I also am a real estate instructor as Rudy knows that’s how we met way back when, can I use your story as an example of how much the landscape has changed and blogging is the new tool in the toolshed?
joe,
welcome to teaching world! after a few more, will start calling you professor!
Helen,
Thank you for all your support and encouragement. Having traveled the country preaching the word of blogging, it was especially rewarding to bring the message to the Realtors in New York, where blogging still has not taken off, as in other states (like Arizona
Jay Thompson is proof of one of the benefits of blogging– media attention, which can lead to business.
Way to go Jay. You’ve been on the local TV news, as well. Am I right?
Thanks Frank. I look forward to more opportunities to help professionals become more aware of online tools & technology and how they might use them to enhance their current marketing and networking efforts. As Helen said, there are many tools in the toolshed– learn to use as many as you can and choose the ones that work best for you.
Joe - Yes, local TV news 3 times, local newspapers several times, and also mentioned in BusinessWeek and MSN Real Estate articles. Will be in this months edition of Phoenix Magazine, their annual real estate addition. Invited to speak at local and national real estate and business seminars. Every single one of those was a result of the blog.
I don’t say this to toot my own horn, just to share the power of blogging.
Helen - you’re welcome to use as much or as little as you’d like. There is more detail on the press that’s resulted from the blog here.
Rescued from spam.
From Glenn:
Maybe Joe could share his presentation here on the blog. I know that his information could be very informative. Do I dare mention that my wife is a Long Island gal?
Thanks Jay
And Joe I thought you traveled so far from your “home base” to share your knowledge and we are better for it. I am now feeling the pull of the blog. My alerts are coming fast and furious. This is more fun than I ever imagined. And as Jay pointed out extremely important for our business.
Welcome to the blogging community Helen.
Thanks Joe, now I’ll go into the field and spread the words of Joe and Rudy. Have a great day. I’m off to teach Stratus and Listingbook
