We are all familiar with the Lutz family of Amityville and their famous house. Let’s say you have the misfortune of living in your own less famous haunted house. You decide you’ve had enough of flying objects, foul smells, and nightly visits from the resident restless spirits. You want to sell but find your local broker, fearing a hard sell, doesn’t want to list it. What are you to do? Well, you can hire a haunted house broker. Yes, that’s right, there is a broker who is not afraid to list it.
It seems this niche is occupied by Hauntrepreneurs International, who claim to be the only brokers specializing in selling haunted houses. Actually, they only sell commercial haunted houses, haunted hay rides, haunted trails and equipment to that frightening sector of the Amusement Industry. They’ve been around since 1987.
I put a call into the company and am waitiing to hear if they have the stomach to deal with selling residential haunted houses. My guess is this niche will remain the domain of only the most intrepid broker–the exorcise exercise is just too much of a nightmare.
P.S. I am aware of at least one case where a buyer actually sought out a haunted house. The reason—- he wanted to turn it into a bed & breakfast.
