They may want to focus on becoming a specialist in a particular niche, such as a townhouse, first time home buyer, retail, shopping center or senior specialist. As you become more focused about a specific niche within real estate, you will slowly become a master of that niche. That is something all consumers look for, someone who knows their business, inside and out.

“When I first got into this industry, it was very hard,” he says. “You know, you get that feeling in the pit of your stomach, like, oh God, am I gonna make it?

“It’s not overnight success, by any means.”

What he did have was a niche — homes in foreclosure and bankruptcy.

He had plenty of homes to pick from; more than 900 foreclosed houses were available at one time or another in Guilford County last year.

And, he says, being young made him hungry to prove himself.
