Parking Garage of the Future at Autostadt

Autostadt (Autocity) is an automobile theme park and historical museum located in Wolfsburg, Germany. It is the creation of Volkswagen. It attract 2 million visitors a year. What I found most interesting about Autostadt was the parking garage or AutoTower.

20 floors hold 400 cars

Here’s how they park cars in the Tower.  Wonder if someone has to drive it into the space.

They claim the cars are less likely to be damaged while being parked.  We think it will still find a way.

Do people pull the cars in? or Is it really all robotic? if so how does the car roll into the cubby? and how does it stop?

I'm doing a school project and these questions have come up.

Budget of the Autostadt parking, please,
    Thank,
    Ismael.
  • I certainly hope they have attendants that park and retrieve the cars from the parking spaces, especially if the lift used for the cars is the only method to get up and down. I am scared of heights!
  • I love it! Just wait, I bet we'll see that building in a movie ... some kind of car chase or Bruce Willis fight scene.
  • I couldn't park in one of those. No way. maybe they have attendants?
  • It makes more sense but it makes me as dizzy as the post before with that gorgeous but vertigo inducing Alps photo lol. For some reason when I see the cars in that 20 story bldg it all looks very Japanese!
  • Wow - that is an incredible design. Sort of reminds me of The Matrix, though. I suspect that kind of design will be seen elsewhere in the next 10 years.
  • I've heard of stacked parking on some cities, but this one takes the cale. Very cool!
  • I think that's cool. It makes sense instead of taking up so much room horizontally, this could be considered e-friendly. I like it!
