CyberRain: The Sprinkler System with a Brain

Cyber-Rain is a sprinkler system designed to save 30-70 percent on their water bills by using  automatic weather updates from the internet.

Most sprinkler control systems (like mine) rely on manually adjusted timers to run the watering schedules. It is often wasteful and inefficient because it does not adjust for the weather conditions.  The Cyber-Rain controller uses your PC, getting weather updates from Weather.com, to automatically adjust the watering. For example, it will stop the sprinklers on rainy days and automatically decrease the watering schedule on cold or humid days, and increase it on hot and dry days.

The company claims this computer savvy sytem will save you up to 70% on your water usage. Cyber-Rain will even provide stats on your water usage.   With the high cost of everything, including water, this sounds like a no-brainer.

The complete Cyber-Rain controller system costs $349

Anyone use Cyber-Rain?  Does it work as advertised?

  • I just wish we could use our irrigation systems in the Atlanta area. We remain in a drought condition and are not allowed to water.
  • Makes sense. Though living in Phoenix, where there are almost no rainy, cold or humid days makes me think it would *increase* my watering bill... ;)
  • I believe the company may have a disclaimer for Arizona :)
  • Here in Florida, some homes have private wells for watering. Even though having a private well, I still want to conserve water. There is a system that measures the moisture in the lawn or landscaped areas before turning on.
