Dashfly Maps Your Travel Routes To Save Gas

Time is money…  and so is gas.   And with gas prices starting to climb again, every mile saved is money that stays in your pocket.  For folks in the business of making a lot of house calls, a service that can map the shortest routes would be great to save time and gas money.

Enter Dashfly.

Give Dashfly your starting point and the stops you need to make and Dashfly will map out the shortest route, saving you time and gas money.  Not a bad idea.

There is a Free Standard plan which lets you route, edit and reroute up to 4 stops from your starting point and save up to four routes (though if you print them out, I guess you get unlimited saves).   (I guess this is on a monthly basis)

Other priced plans are here.

What I like  about Dashfly:

  • Easy multi-stop inputs– I even typed in a name of a business and a city park and Dashfly instantly mapped it
  • Easy to reroute stops by drag and drop
  • Shows gas station locations and prices (for regular, midgrade, premium and diesel)– although it missed key gas stations closer to my stops (gotta fix that)
  • The mileage reports (on the paid plans)
  • Free to try out

The downside:

With GPS navigation systems becoming standard on most cars, not sure how Dashfly will compete — heck, who wants to look down at a printout of your 10 stop route, when you can listen to that nice GPS lady telling you where to turn (OK, she may not have the absolute shortest route but she’ll get you there).  If Dashfly would easily integrate with your GPS, well now then you’ve got something– then that nice GPS lady will guide you by the shortest route.   (Dashfly Premium Plan members will have the ability to export routes to their navigation devices on  July 1, 2009, according to the company website. )

What do you think about Dashfly?  Any other competing routing apps out there?

Personally, I’m looking to get the Dash Express. (jumps to Time video, very entertaining with Clementine.)

  • HomeQuest has something called the Route Exporter that has been doing this same thing for a while. The only difference is that there is not a nice web interface, it is all done through an exported file to Microsoft Streets and Trips. I believe the next version is just going to integrate with Google Maps though.
