Free 411 Calls Using GOOG 411

Free 411 service from Google (US and Canada).

  1. Dial 1-800-GOOG 411 (1-800-466-4411) from any phone
  2. Select location or enter zipcode
  3. Select business name or type (”pizza”, “italian restaurant”)
  4. Choose the selection (by voice or # entry)
  5. Google dials the call.

Nice.   Only for businesses though, not residential (yet).

You can also get a map link sent to your mobile phone– see more features here (including “help”).

TIP: Share this tip with your non-tech savvy clients & they will pass it on (and maybe mention your name and how you are hip to all the coolest tools).  In fact, passing on useful tips & tools is a good way to keep in contact with past clients.  What else can a professional do to keep contact with past clients?

I just heard about this and used it once already. I’ve added it to my phonebook but hadn’t thought to pass it along. I will include it in my next email to my clients.

Love the suggestion about sharing this with clients as another way to stay in touch with them.

Heavens! Here’s a Tech Tip even I might be able to manage. Thanks I’ll put it up on the Home Marketing Mastermind Group on Facebook.

It’s great. I stumbled upon this after a frustrating call to Verizon 411 in which I could not get the needed phone number. I googled telephone directory and, of course, this came up first. Got the number I needed in a matter of minutes!

It works great. I added it to my phone directory for easy access.

Make sure you pass on good tips - some people don’t like automation (me included) - customers can be funny about they think good tips are.

While Google is one of the best at recognizing your voice, I still find that it takes far longer for the computer to understand me and then connect me than a regular operator does. There are lots of free services out there, but I prefer the ones with real people. I use 800-411-SAVE as they have live operators (in the US from the sound of it!), find numbers for businesses, people, and government offices in the US and Canada, and connect me for free.

You’re right Alan. That can be a problem. A solution might be to pass on tech tips and non-tech tips and make everyone happy.

(I think GOOG 411 might also text message directions too.)

BTW, does 800-411-Save dial the number for you for free as Goog411 does?

I also use 1800-411-SAVE because it’s nice to hear a live operator on the other end of the line verifying your request before giving you any number. It save you not only money but time as well. Check out their video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLvUGXL4oCY

Why not. 1-800411SAVE offers free directory assistance and its for business and residential numbers. We dont need to think of limitation, we have to give our all. Save this number on your phonebook and use it the next time you’ll be needing a number.
