Free Browser Watchdog: SiteAdvisor

Surfing the Web can be hazardous to your mental health. Spam, pop-ups, spyware, malware, and all the rest are out there like chug-holes disturbing your peaceful ride down the Internet highway. Until I found SiteAdvisor, I was hesitant to download anything from any website I did not absolutely trust. Now trust has a color I can see.

SiteAdvisor is a free add-on for Internet Explorer and Firefox and is super easy to install. It sits on the bottom of your page like a guard dog. It examines any website you visit and tells you by its color whether the site is to be trusted. It analyzes the data and rates the site–green is a clean bill of health & red is stay away because there is definitely a problem with the site. There is also a yellow “marginal” (passable) rating and a gray rating for unexamined sites.

The coolest part of the Advisor is it gives useful details about the website you’re on, as well as user comments. This highly recommended watchdog will not remain free for long so get it while it’s still a pup.
