There are many URL shortening services: tinyurl, snipurl, Bit.ly , is.gd and about 90 others.
Cli.gs not only shortens URLs, it will track clicks to them in real time.
Cligs says it has social media monitoring which “keeps track in real time of who tweets your link, who shares it on Friendfeed, who links to it, who blogs about it, who writes a blog comment about it, and more. Not just that, Cligs does that for the destination URL too.”
Want more?
- Cligs lets you insert your brand name in your links! http://cli.gs/MyBrand.
- If you use Gmail, you can add a Cligs gadget that help you create cligs right in GMail without leaving them. In this way you can measure clicks to your email links. Nice. Full details at the Cligs Google Gadget home page.
- You can create different shortened URLs for the same destination URL, each with a different tracking code, to see if you’re getting more clicks from Twitter, Facebook or FriendFeed updates
Unlike BudUrl, which also shortens and tracks URL clicks, Cligs is totally FREE. (BudUrl has a limited free version).
Needless to say, I signed up and am going to give Cligs a spin.
Update: Here’s a recent snapshot of traffic from cligs I put on Twitter:
