Minimap Firefox Add On: Never Get Lost

Minimap Sidebar is a Firefox add-on that gives you cool mapping tools accessible from your web browser with a click.

Simply highlight an address or address link you find on a web page, click Minimap and the location will be mapped and saved in a sidebar. You can then get directions.   That is the essence of Minimaps, although there are other cool features found in Preview mode, such as viewing the location in Flickr, Panoramio, Tagzania, Upcoming and more.  (I’m waiting for a Yelp mashup.)

I took it for a test spin and it worked fine.

Let’s say you want to know how far a local high school is from a house you found on Zillow.  While the Barton gang will give you a link to the school, they don’t give you the distance from the house or directions.  Here’s where Minimap can come  in handy.

On the page with the home address, highlight the link to the high school and open Minimap sidebar.  BAM!  you  see the house location on a map:

Now all you need is directions to the school from the house. Click Directions to/from and paste the home address to see the house and school on a map w/directions.  Look, it’s only a 3 minute drive.

Anyone using Minimaps?  What application do you find useful?
