Send Your Business Card By Phone Using Dropcard

Dropcard is a neat little service to easily share your contact information with someone you just met via your cell phone or iPhone.

First, sign up for a free account and create your profile (you get 2– business & personal), which includes:

  • name and title
  • your blog and website links
  • email addresses
  • telephone numbers
  • IM/chats (skype, yahoo, etc)
  • social networks (Facebook, Linkedin, etc)
  • Vcard.

Now you’re ready to use dropcard. Whenever you meet someone, get their email address and text it to dropcard (at 41411) and dropcard will forward your profile to them via email. They can then add you to their address book. Pretty cool

Here’s how:

Send a text message to 41411 and add this text message:

drop JohnDoe@theiremail.com

Your profile will be emailed to that person. You also get a confirmation copy by email. Nice.

Your dropcard arrives in their email like this:

There are a few text message shortcuts. For example, when sending to gmail, just text drop JohnSmith. More shortcuts here.

Visit the Dropcard blog here.

Dropcard was just launched by Tal Raviv, Areil Allon and Anton Bernstein, students at Penn in Philadelphia. Good luckwith dropcard– I’m in.

I don’t think it’s the end of business cards but it’s an easy way to get your contact information into another’s email box.

My one suggestion: Add a comment or text box in my profile for a message.

UPDATE: Now you can send your dropcard from the dropcard website AND leave a message.

Thanks Tal.
