Time to coin a new phrase: Web Heroin. I define it as the applications and tools you find online that get you hooked on the net and keep you coming back craving more. Well, I just got another Net Fix at Cooliris. (Hey, another coinage.)
Cooliris has some nasty stuff— and I mean that in a good way. I wrote about PicLens last week. Now, it’s Cooliris Previews.
OK, I’m totally hooked on Cooliris. I use the PicLens “3D wall” all the time to search images. I’ve downloaded the Cooliris Previews Firefox extension for faster click-less browsing. This click-less speed browsing is, well, like speed. Then there’s the PicLens Gallery 3D wall plug-in to take your PowerPoint presentations to a new high. And a Wordpress plug-in and widget. (See it in action on this blog. ) In fact, you can even PicLens-enable your entire website or blog to give viewers the 3D wall immersive experience.
It’s totally addictive. But unlike real heroin, the stuff you mainline download at Cooliris is FREE!
Here’s how Previews works:
Whenever you roll over a link, the Cooliris Preview icon appears.
If you rollover the icon, the link opens on the same page – Apture-like. (Apture is more WH)
But there’s more:
- preview videos and images, as well as web links on the same page
- email a link to a friend with a click
- click links within the preview page and that inner link also opens on the same page
- open the preview link in a new tab (I like that)
- click back and forth between previews
- it works on blogs, forums and anywhere a link can whisk you away (I use it to preview incoming links to the blog) Even as I type this post, I rollover the icon next to preview and see the blog post, without leaving the editor:
- bookmark previewed links in a “stack” and access them at any time:
You can even change the preview settings :
Visit Cooliris at your own risk. If you get hooked, don’t blame me, because I told you so.
