YouTomb: Where YouTube Videos Are Buried

A research project by MIT Students, YouTomb, is keeping track of top rated YouTube videos that have been taken down by YouTube for alleged copyright infringement.

The group supports the fair use doctrine, which provides for the use of copyrighted material under certain circumstances and believes there may be overreaching by YouTube– the removal of videos which contain enough original material to qualify as non-infringing of another’s copyright.

YouTube’s uses of filtering material (those damn computers trying to act like humans again) may inaccurately determine copyright infringement, which has the group rightfully concerned.

The removed videos are not viewable on YouTomb.
