Yesterday, after lunch with Jonathan Miller, I strolled over to Grand Central Station to check out New York’s Earth Fair. There were assorted companies extolling the virtues of earth-friendly products, such as shoes made from recyled tires, organic treats, hybrid cars and buses—even Burt’s Bees was there with an array of skin care products made from carrots to milk and honey.
Tesla Motors even had a prototype electric sports car that could go from 0-60 mph in about 4 seconds, reach a top speed of 135 mph and get an astounding 135 miles per gallon. Youza!
“Burn rubber, not gasoline” is the motto of Tesla’s 100% electric Roadster.

A rock band promoted it’s own form of electric power. The crowd loved it.
Of all the people I spoke with, my favorite was Roxanne Warren, of Roxanne Warren & Associates, Architects. She is Chairperson of Vision42, which has a dramatic and fantastic idea to transform 42nd Street. Vision 42 is a non-profit citizens’ initiative to create an urban oasis—a landscaped pedestrian boulevard with a low-floor light rail line—- that would run from river to river along Manhattan’s famed 42nd Street. No cars!
Roxanne explained the economic advantages of the plan (which could be made a reality in as little as 15 months), to go along with the improvements to air quality and the quality of city life. Now that’s a bold vision.
