Firefox is our browser of choice for a host of reasons. Add-ons is one of them. One neat Add-on is Search Status by Craig Raw. Download it at Firefox Add-ons. Here’s what you’ll see after download:
This little gizmo will sit quietly at the bottom of your screen and tell you the Google Page Rank and Alexa Ranking for any website or blog you visit (just rollover them). Since the Search Status tool reports back to Alexa the sites you visit, it may also help to increase your own Alexa rankings, according to Daily Blog Tips.
Now, we know Alexa is unreliable to measure your traffic reach, rank and page views, and that Google Page Rank is not all it’s cracked up to be, but the tool may give you some sense of a site’s popularity. Visit some high profile websites and blogs, check the ratings and decide for yourself.
We’d love to hear from some SEO folks what they think about Search Status and any SEO worthiness.
Google trivia: Google’s Page Rank is a patented process named after Google founder Larry Page. Interestingly the patent is not with Google but with Stanford University, where it was developed as part of their research project.
