Watching the Winter Olympics, I thought about the Jamaican bobsled team. In the 1988 games they were an amusing novelty. But they later gained respectability and inspired the successful film “Cool Runnings”. Noting their absence from the Torino games I wondered who could take their place.
Well maybe it will be the Dubai Ski Team. Now with the newly constructed Dubai Sunny Mountain Skidome, an indoor ski facility, youngsters from this tiny Middle Eastern Emirate can practice the sport year round.
Ski Dubai is the first in-door ski resort in the Middle East. With real snow 365 days a year and an air-conditioned alpine climate, the resort offers five slopes of varying difficulty as well as a Snow Park for snowboarders. There are all the necessary resort amenities.
Dubai is already the top vacation destination on the Arabian peninsula with over 4 million visitors annually, plus one notable expatriate. The nation plans to double that number and has designed a Disney inspired theme park tentatively called Dubailand, which officials claim will dwarf the mouse kingdom.
