Baidou ( pronounced by-DOO) owns China search. It crushes Google and Yahoo. The name was inspired by an 800 year old poem. The poem compares the search for a retreating beauty with a search for one’s dream despite life’s many obstacles. Romantic search—now that’s appealing. Read the Baidou story here. Robin Li and Eric Xu created Baidou in 2000. The name literally means “hundreds & thousands of times”.
The company runs the risk of government intervention because it allows access to gambling and pornography, both banned in China. Robin & Eric obvioulsy spent a lot of time on Google.
