Robert K. Hoffman, one of the three founding members of the National Lampoon humor magazine died Sunday of leukemia. He was 59. He was a civic leader, philanthropist and art lover.
Most younger people only know of National Lampoon by its famous films like National Lampoon’s Vacation with Chevy Chase and Animal House with John Belushi. But for us old schoolers, the magazine comes to mind, with its edgy covers and unique brand of irreverent humor. Wikipedia has a nice summary with links to several controversial magazine covers. Thank you Robert Hoffman and farewell.
Voted one of the Top 40 magazine covers of all time by the American Society of Magazine Editors.

Am I young? I guess so. I didn’t know National Lampoon was anything but a movie franchise.
Oh yes, and quite controversial in its heyday. It had a certain sophomoric humor but it way cleverly humorous. Their covers often got them into trouble. This one got them introduced to Disney’s lawyers.
