How to Create A Search Engine for Your Blog

It’s easy to create a search engine for your blog using Google Custom Search Engine.

Go to Google Custom Search and click

Simply name your search engine, add a description and keywords, insert your blog URL and choose the standard (free) edition. Once you test it and click finish, go to your Control panel, click Code and choose the Search Results Hosting Options (easiest is “host results on a Google page”):

Copy the code and embed it wherever you like on your blog. You’re done.

Google gives you a host of other options to customize your search engine (and you can create as many search engines as you like.)

I went with the simple “Search Sellsius” (look in the code for “Search” and add your blog name in the quotes. I also shortened the width from 31 to 21). Here’s my result in the sidebar:

  • Thanks for this post. I often wondered how people did this.
