Jott: Send Email With Your Cell Phone

Jeff Turner of Real Estate Shows tipped us off to Jott. Jott lets you send an email via your cellphone. Jott converts your voicemail (up to 15 seconds) to text and sends it to your email box or to another person or group’s email or as a phone text message. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.

I called Jott and left myself a voice message. I checked my email and there it was, in text, together with the voicemail link. All your messages are also accessible at jott.com.

Jott is a useful tool to send email or cell phone text messages to another person or groups of people. Put Jott in your speed dial and whenever you need to send a message, call it in to Jott and route it to the people you need to reach. They will receive your voice message in their email box and/or as a text message on their cell phone. That’s great for me because I hate sending text messages by cell phone.

But here’s an interesting feature: Jott Blogging. I haven’t tried it yet but Jeff did. The text translation is off but it has potential. If you’re on the road and see something you just have to blog, but don’t have your computer, just Jott it to your blog.

I ran this voice to text blogging idea by Kevin Boer, Pat Kitano and Travis Chow (of Neighboroo) at Inman NYC Connect in January and here it is.

Thanks for the tip Jeff.

  • Hey, I just married Jott and Twitter on The JottBlog Experiment, with a new plugin for wordpress called TwitThis at http://twitthis.com You can see how it works at http://res.realestateshows.com/jott/ if you have a Twitter account, just click on the TwitThis button that appears on each post. It give you an easy interface to Twitter about what you're reading.

I still don't fully get Twitter, but it's growing on me.
  • Hey, Robert Scoble just visited and commented in his Twitter stream about our JottBlog Experiment...

" Thanks @ResPres for the Jott blogging experiment. I gotta try that (cell phone blogging). http://tinyurl.com/2sgyqr " 7 minutes ago... :)
  • It's an intriguing idea and I'll have to check it out. I take it the text translation is near-real-time and done by an algorithm, not a help desk that's been modified to do text translation?
  • Kevin, no, it is a combination of automated transcription and human editing. A clean room full of editors in India I believe.
  • Like my grandma says "What's with all the emails. If I want to talk to someone I just call them."

I think it is cool for blogs though.
  • But check this matt---one Jott can go to several people.
  • thx Jeff for figuring this all out and joe/rudy to publicize this. I'm now on jott and twitter myself because I love the idea of VM as email...
  • I am still not sure how to use Twitter in real estate, but it's not stopping me from trying. I have had a Jott account for 6 months now and I use it for notes to self, but the idea of note to blog is something I will be trying.

I also want to suggest someone figure how to combine this with tumblr and then give me a training session of the Jott-Twitter-Tumbler-Blog combination that is best suited for real estate.
