Yep, you can reserve a seat on Megabus for travel between 2 US cities for a buck (plus .50 reservation fee). The $1 fare is a teaser (for early bookers) but the regular rates are also bargains. The discount daily express bus service is available in many US cities and Canada. They even have double-deckers.
According to a company press release:
Beginning May 30 [2008], East Coast residents can travel for as low as $1 from New York to Boston, Washington, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Buffalo, N.Y. and Atlantic City, N.J. in the United States; and Toronto.
Started in 2006, Megabus delivered their 1 millionth passenger this year.
Megabus is part of a growing new breed of low-cost bus service offered to combat the high cost of train and car travel.
BoltBus offers cheap rides to and from New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington DC. Fares run from $10-35 roundtrip. BoltBus says online reservations are lowest and guarantee you a seat, so long as you arrive 15 minutes prior to departure. Otherwise it goes to a standby passenger. BoltBus offers rewards too– book 4 roundtrips and get one free. BoltBus is a joint venture between Greyhound and Peter Pan Bus Lines.
This is a great inexpensive way for college students to come home on holidays …. or when they need their 100 pounds of laundry done. My son went to college in Rhode Island and the train fare was over $100.
