Bare Butt Marketing

Believing that less is more, Lush, a British company that makes handmade soap uses little packaging on its products. The company decided to hit the streets the same way to promote their wares (yes, the soap). Copyranter called it Girlrilla Assvertising.

This unveiling event was in Berlin but Lush has bared its butt in Britain too. Blimey.

Apparently, the marketing works and the employees products get a lot of second looks. Those who looked at the front of the apron saw the come-on message: “Ask me why I’m naked.”

Don’t think I’d recommend this outside-the-pants marketing …. unless you rent to college frat boys.

Update: As usual, the “Notorious One”, has his own take-it-off spin. Nakedlistings? (Yes, I do remember that conversation.)

  • Doesn't PETA (people for the ethical treatment of animals) demostrate in a similar manner? However, they usually get stares but not many positive comments.
  • Yes, PETA has practically built a brand around naked celebrity anti-fur ads.
    here's a sample: http://blog.peta.org/archives/2007/12/eva_mende...
  • I did get some photos when they were demostrating here and body painted like zebras.
  • Thanks Joe.

Dare I say this cracked me up. :>)
  • That's what matters :)
  • I would think this would be against the law. Isn't it illegal to be naked in public? Maybe he police look the other way if you look good naked.
  • In most countries, yes. This was done in the UK and Germany. Perhaps they
found a loophole or way around it :)

Interestingly, in New York, women have the right to go topless. One woman
who was arrested sued and got $29,000. http://tinyurl.com/22gavl

ah yes, gotta love Lush. they were doing the same thing here in boulder, co on pearl street mall except they actually had some kind of shorts on under the apron... i don't know if they got any more business because of it, though.
  • From a marketing perspective, it's free press and increases brand
awareness. Maybe they gave away free samples (of the soap, that is).
  • It looks like I am selling loans the wrong way
  • Ya gotta get behind the product :)
