Did Google Fish Slap Trulia?

google-fish-slaps-trulia

Did the Trulia SEO merry tricksters get caught with their hands in the Google cookie jar or was it some glitch in the matrix.  Heck if I know.

Apparently, Trulia’s juiced content is not ranking where it ought in Google.  Techy folks had complained that the Trulia real estate college project was playing Cloaks and Daggers in some sort of mischievous gray hat SEO strategy game.  Who can blame these college kids from trying to get to the head of the class?

Trulia, pleading innocence, has gone to the principal’s office (Google Webmaster) to see if they get  permanent detention (or unglitched from the matrix).  They brought a note from home.

For more on this true mystery, and more fish slapping, jump over to Netamorfasis. (she told you so).

One guy has evidently figured it out– Google may be unplugging Trulia’s automated plug and play SEO machine.

Update:  Eric Bramlett weighs in with his findings.

  • It's not like we wish bad on anyone, but it does even the playing field nicely for us "little people."

If they were "cloaking" as is the general consensus:
    1. how long will they be in the the "penalty box?"
    2. if they come out with a new "above board" design/system---they surely won't rank as highly as they once did.

    Bad times over there.
  • Pete and Sami may have to wait a little longer before they sell this pup and
the VC may chew them out a tad but methinks their card counting system was
just trumped by the Google casino eye in the sky. If I was one of the folks
with stock options, I'd be a little miffed.

realtor.com isnt looking so bad now..... trulia is pretty evil. Love how they give sub domains to partners rather than code to display listings. This means many "page views" are bs. This is another story though.
  • This doesn't bode well for Trulia especially with their mass email marketing campaign to real estate agents about how better they are than Realtor.com.
  • The friendly "Hey agent, give us your listings and content for free, we're here to help you" marketing line seems a tad disingenuous when Trulia is jumping those same agents in the SERPS with their own listings and content. With friends like that, who needs enemas?
