It’s always nice to give a virtual high five to a blogger from my neck of the real estate woods.
Michael Daly of Hamptons Real Estate Blog, was featured in the Southhampton Press’ “Lunch With…” interview series. (Read the interview here)
I’ve known Michael for a few years now. He owns Beach Properties of the Hamptons in Southhampton, NY. He’s an experienced professional (and good egg) who just happens to work in one of the toniest markets on the east coast. (I stop by Mike’s office every summer to share some of the clam booty I rake out of Hampton bays. Get the lemons Mike, I’m coming by soon.)
Being featured in your local newspaper is great for marketing and adds to your professional resume.
Blogger TIP: Mainstream media still matters. Contact the editor of your local newspaper (real estate section, if they have a separate editor), introduce yourself as a real estate blogger and pass on some interesting local story or news you broke — or ask what type stories interest them. Heck, if you’re in a small town, make an appointment and stop by in person. Once the ice is broken, you can pass on topics of interest to the editor. Newspapers, like bloggers, NEED content. Don’t be surprised when one day you get the call for an interview. Press is free publicity of a high order.
[Personal aside: When my son, who was an amateur surfer, won the state championship for his age group, I contacted our local newspaper's sports department to pass on the news. They ran my son's photo with an acknowledgment of his achievement. The kid thought he was a rock star.]
