Tim Judge of HomeSearchTV (and a working real estate broker) will share his technique for getting to the top of Google using long term keywords and YouTube.
I met Tim at the 2008 RISMedia Leadership Conference in New York. Tim is a real estate broker in Greenwich, CT. Tim was an exhibitor. It was his first show. His booth was simple — a small projector, laptop and photocopies from Google’s hallowed first page showing him owning 8 of the 10 sacred spots for Greenwich real estate. How did he do it? Simple. The Long Tail of video using Animoto, which converts your photos to video*, with music.
Now, I have always been a bit skeptical about chasing the long tail but I liked Tim’s simple, yet effective, approach:
- Create Animoto videos of your listings (using house photos), which you can easily, and I mean easily, upload to YouTube.
- Title and tag them with the long tail term “Greenwich real estate under 700000 (or other amount)”.
- Syndicate the videos across the web, using a syndication service
- Wa-la! See top ranking Google results in 24 hours.
Since Google indexes video in its search results (and happens to own YouTube), Tim’s videos take up priceless Google real estate space on a long tail term a buyer may actually type into the Google box: Greenwich real estate under 700000. But here’s the best part— this is a long tail term used by a transactional visitor– one who is looking to do business now or in the near future. WOW, what a concept— Transactional long term keywords.
Just to check, I did the search today and here are the first page Google results. The red ones are Tim’s, starting at number 1. (notice all the other websites carrying the video)
Tim is offering to teach real estate agents his system (there are some inside tricks) for $97. If you want to do it yourself, you certainly can and save the dough, or buy Tim’s ebook for $47. (I had a peek at it and it has some good In any case, you can sign up for free at Homesearchtv.com and upload your videos.
Oh, I almost forgot. It works! Tim has sold homes using his method. In fact, one listing, which sold in 2 weeks, brought his client to tears (the music always does it). Since it held the top spot on Google, he used the video as a placeholder, marked the house sold and added a link to other listings. Tim is one smart fellow.
I have always been a fan of music video for marketing homes. Home buying is an emotional experience and music is emotional. YouTube is poor quality but the coolness of the Animoto shows more than compensates. And you just want to get folks interested enough to want to call to see the house– no video, no matter how polished can replace the experience of being in the home.
Tim gets a Sellsius Thumbs Up. Good luck with Homesearchtv, Tim.

*some purists will object to the Animoto shows being referred to as “video”. If it came down to a textbook answer, I’d agree, but the debate misses the fundamental test question, which is, “What visual tool(s) will be effective to get folks to come look at homes?” Animoto passes this test.
