For those wondering about all the Sellsius blog post re-runs the last two weeks, I was in Europe on business. I decided to stay a bit longer to have a little fun (without the Internet– yes, it is possible). My first stop was Amsterdam. Here are some pics.
My first impression– Gee, there are a lot of canals here, and bridges to cross over them (1500 bridges to be exact).
And bicycles EVERYWHERE
Most everyone’s on one.
Theft must be a big problem ’cause EVERYONE locks them up…
…so as not to lose them.
There are a lot of things to do in town. I went to a book fair to see if books had died there. They hadn’t.
Then a visit to the flea market to see if Dutch stuff is like our stuff. Yeah, pretty much.
They had skull socks.
And boots to go with them.
I went for the Stars and Stripes:
Of course, there are chatckes of all kinds
And boxes to stash your stuff
Guess who was in town?
I found them the perfect gift
There are some interesting businesses in town.
From the cerebral…
to the psychedelic …
to the sensory.
Coffee shops are not like here in the states (the brew is a bit stronger… and smells a little different)
Some say the Dutch are reserved. I found them a bit…
But they made me feel at home
I stopped by some real estate offices. They like to put house photos in the windows too
With all the canals, you can choose to live on a houseboat.
No lawns… but you can still have a white picket fence
And you can always find a fixer upper.
You can’t visit Amsterdam without going to the Rijksmuseum to see the paintings of the great Dutch masters, like Rembrandt and Vermeer. I found this artist ahead of his time.
And yes… some folks still wear wooden shoes.
Next week, Germany, brats and brews.

Ah, sweet memories of the ancestral homeland!
Excellent pictures, especially the ones of the ’stash’. Once I hit the ‘cerebral’ shops it’s unlikely I would have gotten much further
Beautiful photos as always. I love to read your photo-blogs, they’re the best.
Thanks Erin.
