Signs of Social Media Addiction (with Pics)

For those sipping at the social media cocktail party, be forewarned of the hazards.  Social media is addictive. It starts on weekends and a few times during the week.  Before you know it, these things, and worse, can happen to you:

blog6.gif You tune out everything else.

blogsleep.gif You tweet day and night.

tweet-bath from everywhere

blog-weight.gif You start gaining weight.

blog4.gif You become rooted to your computer screen. (thankfully cell phone technology is allowing you to participate on social media while you  drive)

blog3.gif You’d rather twitter your virtual friends than talk to the flesh and blood ones.

signs-of-blogoholism.jpg You won’t travel without your computer.

blog5.gif Your priorities change.

What’s more, you might pass it on to your children.

If you see your loved ones showing any of these warning signs, get them help immediately.

  • I might have a problem. :)
  • Oh, man - I'm guilty on so many levels!
  • This is funny and very true. I recommend the recent article in Slate.com by Yoffe about how the brain is affected by social media.
  • I gotta admit that, at first, I didn't think I was going to like Twitter. Now it's all I can do to drag myself away to read and comment on sterling blogs such as this one. The sad thing is that this has much richer content and is much more useful. So why do I still hang out on Twitter?
  • I enjoyed your post and the pictures are great.
  • Thank you all for your comments. While this post may seem like a knock on social media, it is not, for social media appeals to what makes us human-- the desire to connect with others. But let us not forget that we also exist outside the net and our connections in the physical world should not be neglected. In the end, it is a question of balance.

I feel an ever so gradual pull towards this immense black hole called social tweeting, but I'm barely on the fringe. I've still got to far to go before it can get me. I'm in control here and I won't get caught!
