What, you may ask, is a post about tombstones doing on a real estate blog? Good question. One answer may be that the website will allow posting of cemetary plots. Another and better answer is that I found the concept interesting from a technological point of view.

Rather than the silent and grave (excuse the pun) etching of one’s name and years on earth coupled with traditional religious symbols and epitaphs, there is now another way to memorialize a loved one.

A company called Vidstone claims to be the first to offer a video memorial. The Serenity Panel is a solar-powered and weatherproof 7″ LCD attached to a gravestone. It contains 5-8 minutes of a multimedia tribute to the deceased (headphones are included). A benefit of this memorial is to grandchildren or other youngsters who may not remember the deceased relative.

It’s another way to go.

While we’re on the subject of graves, I’d like to share with you an interesting grave search site, FindaGrave. You can find the final resting places of the famous and infamous, as well as the everyday Joe. The website contains detailed biographies and photos of the graves and epitaphs.

Did you know that Harry Houdini (Ehrich Weiss) is buried in Queens, NY?
