  • Joseph, did I already tell you how great it was meeting you last week? You are definitely on my short list of realestate SM gurus. Be sure and let me know if your travels take you to my area.
  • Thank you Joe. It was a pleasure meeting you too. (reminds me to post the
    NAR photos)
Yes, I will let you know when I have the pleasure to be in your neck of the
woods. If you ever wander to NYC, let me know & ill show you the town.
  • I agree the right gift should be tailored to the buyer; that being said, I usually have a few that I typically use. One gift that's been a recurring hit with buyers is to have my locksmith redo all the keys in the home, often redoing them such that the messy set of keys on several keychains they received at closing can be replaced with two/three keys at most.

It's unique, and I have had many subsequent "thanks", months after settlements.
  • That is a great useful gift Claude. Thanks for sharing it.
  • Haven't played golf in ... (almost 40 years??) so I wasn't going to bother to comment. But your play-it-forward angle got me, Joe. Coo idea (as per usual). THX

    Sandy
  • Thanks Ann.

I'm following Larry's lead and also kicking in $25 to the winner (with the hope they pay it forward). So now the winner gets the golf club stand and $50.
  • Joe - this is a great idea, and I'd love to give this to my dad. He's getting back into golfing again after my mom passed away.

I love the ideas in the comments about the personalized gifts for clients. Those really are the ones that have great shelf-life and mean the most to those receiving them. And those are the ones that have brought me the greatest returns as well.

Heck, I love the gifts clients have given me that show they picked it out specifically for me!

I'm a tad off center, so my closing gifts are not boilerplate and never predictable, but always personal and client specific.

    >One family relocating into town with 4 kids. Annual passes to the San Diego Zoo and Sea World
    >One investor client who has everything, including a winery - after selling 13 off his units, he received the Waterford Millenium Crystal Toasting Set
    >One buyer realized during the walk thru that his widescreen wouldn't work on the wall they had planned on because of the wiring. His gift was the electrician who showed up the day after closing and rewired what was needed. We watched Monday Night Football two days later with beer and pizza.
    >Jimmy Buffett concert tickets for a couple that were died in the wool Parrotheads

The right closing gift can truly leave a lasting impression.

  • This is my favorite blog to read, and this post demonstrates why. Great idea. I hope you do write a series of cool closing gifts. We all could use more great ideas.
  • Thanks Heather.

I plan to continue the series (w/ giveaways).
  • Put me i please!
  • Joe, hell of an idea.

Now let's throw a Canadian free love twist into this problem with Wet Putters.

Send me your address, you know how, and to help your your love get off the green I will mail you a Bank Draft for $25 in US funds.

It would be my hope that the winner will then pass it on to a charity of their choice. Bonus, they get the deduction. Considering the world, a possibility might be a single mom Realtor who is in trouble. Just sayin..

Joe knows well that I am non-partisan, therefore I'll leave that decision for your personal congress to vote on.

Maybe there are others out there who want to Feel Joe's Love. :>)

    What say Ya'll?.

For some fun, let's remove the sputter and get Joe's putter off the ground.

    I'm in for the 25.
  • Wonderful idea. I'll send you my address and will forward the $25 to the winner. If anyone else wants to join in Larry's love-in plan, let me know in a comment.
  • michelle McCray
    would love to win this
  • I happen to think that closing gifts are important and should be personally chosen for that particular client. I recently closed a $1,755k transaction in which it was important to the wife that all of the potted plants and flowers be left on the huge waterfront patio area. While in escrow, at an inspection we realized that the plants weren't really "all that" and the pots they were in weren't either. There were a few that were, the wife obsessed about making certain these were left. Upon closing I went to the best nursery in town and looked for the perfect gift. It turned out to be a fantastic draping cherry tree; I had it potted into a gorgeous (and large) pot, had a huge red ribbon and a card place on it and had it delivered. They loved it!

Another recent closing received a tree that will bear 5 different fruits. This home had gorgeous landscaping and ton of palm trees, but alas no fruit trees and not a lot of room left to plant them without detracting. There was a sad tree in one corner of the yard that is now gone and will bear all the fruit they need.

I don't play golf, your gift would mean nothing to me, but I had a call from a woman in Vancouver today, looking for a vacation home who was very concerned about the nearby golf courses....................
  • Very nice idea. I love it
  • Rachel Crisman
I would love to win this for my mom . She just found a passion for golf!
