Phelps Gets 8 Golds in 2008 Beijing Olympics, Surpassing Spitz

“Phelpsian” is sure to become the adjective to describe the highest measure of excellence in sport.  Michael Phelps, with the help of his talented teammates, snagged gold medal number 8 in the 4×100 swimming medley (Phelps swam the butterfly) , surpassing the 7 gold medals won by swimming legend Mark Spitz in the 1972 Olympics held in Munich.  That makes a record total of 16 Olympic medals for Phelps, 14 of them gold.  And the guy is only 23!

It is such an accomplishment for so young an athletic. Watching his mother and sisters and how he went up and acknowledged them after winning brought tears to my eyes. You could just see how proud they are of Phelps. Cheers should go out to Mrs Phelps for putting her son in swimming to offset the effects of being ADD, instead of just medicating.

He is already doing commercials on TV. I sure hope he does not let the success go to his head and change. I believe his mother and sisters will help keep him grounded. What a wonderful mother he has to find some other way to keep him busy with his ADH; http://www.goodtherapy.org/New-York-Therapy.htm; when he was young. Wish other parents could find such ways instead of medicating.
