Blog Oscars: And The Winner Is ….

This Sunday, many in the world will watch that American institution, the Academy Awards, to see who is with whom, what they look like, what they’re wearing… and, oh yeah, which of their favorite movies did not get a coveted Oscar.

But you can bet that not everyone cares about those Oscars. For many Bloggers and Bloupies (blog groupies) the awards they value most are the Bloggies.

Come somewhere between March 13th and 15th, those who care about these things will find out if their favorite blogs won anything, including the year’s Best Weblog. The Sixth Annual Weblog Awards, or Bloggies, will announce the results of the voting, which closed on January 31, 2006.

There are many categories to vie for, including Best Web Application for Weblog, Best Weblogs by select continents and countries, Best Podcast of a Weblog, Best Humor, Best Writing, Best Design, Lifetime Achievement (?), Best New Weblog, and my personal favorite, Best Kept Secret Weblog.

While not as prestigous as winning an Academy Award, bagging a bloggie does provide some status and ego boosting bragging rights to those souls slavishly pounding away at their keyboards and their heads for something worth posting.

Good luck to all.

Oh, I forgot to mention the prizes. Beside some nice gifts in each category, there is the grand prize awarded to Weblog of the Year, a hefty 2,006 United States minted Lincolns (pennies). The commitee would have awarded more but they heard bloggers don’t do it for the money. I wonder if they give you a sack for that?
