This is the world’s most expensive painting, sold for a reputed $135 million. Known as “Golden Adele“, it was painted by Gustav Klimt in 1907. The subject, rumored to be the artist’s lover, is a Viennese society woman.
Overflowing crowds are lining up to see it in New York City at the Neue Galerie. To take advantage of the demand, the gallery tripled the admission price to $50 (regularly $15). When asked about the high price tag just to get a peek, a spokesman blamed it on the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which charges $50 for special showings.
Witness the birth of the art museum bubble through September 18th.
