Faced with the rising cost of human labor, it is not surprising that companies are turning to alternatives provided by technology. In apartment buildings, the first to go may be the doorman.
Cyberdoorman, located in New York, provides security and a technological replacement for the building doorman using internet cameras, intercoms, telephones, remote entry and package lock-off rooms. Cyberdoorman is connected to the building devices via a high speed internet connection.
Remote Control Concierge
If a visitor comes to the building and rings for service, a company rep answers and asks for ID. Once obtained, the rep calls the tenant to announce the guest. Once approved by the tenant, the visitor is remotely buzzed in. Cameras record the visitors’ comings and goings.
A tenant can call Cyberdoorman and leave a package for pickup in a special package room. Once the delivery person arrives, the company will open the front door and package room for the pickup. Tenants can also leave instructions on maintenance and utility service people.
If a tenant in the building wants to enter, they can through any manner of remote keyless entry– fingerprint, card swipe, keypad code.
Video surveillance is, of course, part of the cyberdoorman package.
Savings and Privacy
The savings in payroll, insurance, workman’s compensation, etc. mean lower costs to the tenants or owners. They also save on tips, which can get pricey at holiday time.
Building occupant also like the privacy benefits. As you can guess, doormen know all the dirt on all the occupants and are known to spill the beans now and then. While Cyberdoorman knows who comes and goes, they are less likely to tell the neighbors.
There are some disadvantages, of course. There is no one there to help you with your packages, hail you a cab or talk sports with.
Cyberdoorman is a product owned and operated by BEST Monitoring Ltd., a NYS licensed full service security company.

At first I thought this was going to be around a robot. Which would be cool because I like robots. But I dont know this is just a human that is talked to through a remote which seems less cool. Maybe this will be better but it seems every time the people providing the service are farther away its also more annoying. Maybe this will be different who knows.
