If you live in Cote d’Ivoire, formerly known as the Ivory Coast, the government wants to give you a free house. All you have to do is show up on time for work. Yes, that’s it. The government believes work tardiness is so bad, it’s hurting the economy.
Pitching the slogan ‘African time’ is killing Africa, let’s fight it, organizers hope to raise public awareness of how missed appointments, delayed business meetings or even late buses cut productivity in a country where rampant tardiness is the norm. The incentive to get people to show up on time— a new house.
The first winner of the top prize, legal adviser Narcisse Akar, was given a free villa worth $60,000.
