Our friend Christine Forgione over at NY Houses 4 Sale has a great post for those considering buying and selling real estate. In her post, Just the Facts Ma’am, Just the Facts, she reveals some fun & interesting new statistics provided by the NAR as well as some solid tips for agents.
Information Sources Used in Home Search
Real estate agent - 85%
Yard sign - 63%
Internet - 80%
Newspaper - 55%Home book/magazine - 34%
Open house - 47%
Builders - 26%Television - 11%
Relocation company - 5%
According to these NAR stats, a real estate agent is still the most used source of information when searching for real estate! But we already knew that didn’t we?

“According to these NAR stats, a real estate agent is still the most useful source of information when searching for real estate!”
Prevalence does not equal usefulness.
Great post. I too, provide as much information as possible for buyers, especially First Time Home buyers that can proceed in a transation with greater speed and familiarity when poised with valid information.
Gena, would you be interested in contributing to a First Time Home Buyers site we are developing with a group of other bloggers?
chris - that’s true. but re: the usefulness of real estate agents, some may disagree with you. i did however change the language as you can see. thanks for the input.
