back to the "healthy" and calories. there may be more calories in a burrito at chipotle than the burger king double whopper, but here are few things you must consider with that statement as well, or you are just making a blind statement:

the difference in the glycemic index between the two,

calories are named for the amount of energy received from the meal, although you do only want an appropriate amount of calories, it is the quality of the calories that count, not simply the number,

keep in mind preservatives, additives - such as chemical enhancers that lead to addictive qualities- things such as "other spices" in the midst of several listed named spices (fishy?), hydrolyzed proteins, or any other alterior names for msg.

not to mention the mere difference in portion size between the two!

just some things to keep in mind.

Chipotle is one of my favorites! You can definitely get some healthy food here. My regular order is:
Burrito Bol (that tortilla is killer in calories/fat)
Rice
Black Beans
Chicken
Hot Red Sauce
Guacamole

Getting rid of the big tortilla, cheese, and sour cream make the meal a whole lot healthier. I don't really miss any of that but that's just my preference.

A cool site that let's you configure your meal and check the nutritional value is www.chipotlefan.com

Qdoba is owned by Jack in the Box I believe and they are trying to do the same thing as Chipotle from what I've read (I haven't actually seen one in my area yet).

I remember when I first moved to Colorado and had Chipotle. There was nothing like it. The lines out the door most of the time selling to the local college kids. It's just a great business model. You can smell the money when you walk in.
Personally I go with the Chicken soft tacos with the mild and medium salsas. That way I don't feel like I just ate a gut bomb.
Currently I live a half mile from the first Chipotle. I've drolled over the idea of gettting a frachise but alas, they just aren't letting them go. I'd imagine that since its now corporate and and with McDonalds having a large interest, they're never going to need to franchise.
A Similar concept that also happens to be Colorado company is Qdoba. They are currently franchising. Its very similar to Chipotle and would be great in areas that don't have a Chipotle yet. They do well head to head. It's like having a Burger King across from McDonalds. Choices.

hi bones - you are correct. buying stock is currently the only option. maybe future expansion will allow individual store ownership.

p.s. we're big fans of wallstrip. keep up the great work!

christopher - oh boy....guess I should cut back then. let's change "healthy" to tasty :)

I'm a huge Chipotle fan. I love 'em. But when it comes to the "healthy" part, don't drink the kool-aid. A Chipotle burrito w/ rice, black bens, chicken, salsa, sour cream, cheese and guac weighs in at a whopping 1,444 calories and 63 grams of fat. A burger king double whopper w/ cheese comes in at 1,150 calories and 33 grams. Still shameful, but not quite as bad.

I still go to Chipotle on occasion (yum) but now I put it into the "vice" category, which means I have to find some way to make ammends afterwards.
