According to a Tax Foundation report of October 3, 2006, the 20 counties (population above 60,000) with the highest property taxes (owner occupied housing) in the nation are:
20 of the top 21 tax gouged counties are in New Jersey, New York & Connecticut. The top four states with the highest property taxes are New Jersey, New Hampshire, Connecticut & New York. In terms of median real estate taxes as a percentage of median home value by state, Wisconsin ranks number one, followed by Texas, Nebraska, Vermont, and New Hampshire. New Jersey is ranked sixth and New York 16th.
