The Cat Who Owned A House

This is a true story of how a cat came to own a house.

Tinker, pictured above, was a black stray moggie living on scraps until adopted by Margaret Layne, aged 89. Margaret loved Tinker so much she left the furry feline her 3 bedroom house in London in 2003, along with a substantial trust fund. The neighbors Ann & Eugene were charged with caring for Tinker, who liked coley (fish).

Tinker is not the only pet to have owned a home. Brian Tormey of TitleVest title insurance company told New York Magazine, in the August 21, 2006 issue, that in 1999, two sisters bequeathed their 2-story house in Queens, New York to their kittens. A female executor was appointed to care for them and the house.

Eventually the cats decided to move to the country and sold their home for a cool million. It was the first and only “cat flip” of a house. Meooow.
