Beer On A Stick: Hopsicle Takes Some Heat

hopsicle1.gif

Celebrate the first day of summer with a hopsicle.

A hopsicle is frozen beer on a stick. It was invented by accident (naturally) by Frank Morales, chef at Rustico Restaurant in Alexandria, Virginia. Wanting a cold brew fast, Frank did what we all have done—-he put it in the freezer. When he remembered to take it out, it was frozen. Not to let the brewski go to waste, he took a bite and liked it (it was cherry beer). Like a true entrepreneur, he decided to serve it at the restaurant. The novelty item is selling like, you guessed it, hot cakes.

Seems the sudsy wonder is not going down well with Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control. They claim the beer product is illegal because it is not being served in its original container or immediately after opening. Maybe liquor licensing should be abolished too. Where’s my sign? Anarchy! Anarchy!

Reminds us of the Freaky Ice case. It was banned in many countries, including New York where it is made, because it was too similar to kiddie popsicles.

That makes no sense at all. It doesn’t matter whether you serve it fresh out of the bottle or keg or freeze it first; it’s still good ‘ol beer!
