No, the answers to the Burglary Quiz are not there. Look down here.
1. b. Most burglaries occur between 9 am and 3 pm when most people are at work.
2. b. Summer is the most popular season for burglary, especially July & August, because you’re at the beach (or you left your windows open).
3. a. Burglars usually use the front door, surprisingly, because it is commonly left open. (not in NYC)
4. d. Houses are robbed every 15 seconds, according to the FBI. Honey, are you sure you locked the doors?
5. d. Large metropolitan areas have the most burglaries by far. 85% says the FBI.
6. c. Unlawful entry with the intent to steal are elements of the crime. Force is not required (that’s Robbery). Either is success in stealing something (that’s Theft or Larceny).
7. b. Homes are the most frequent targets. 66% according to figures from 2003. And while homes are mostly burglarized during the day, commercial property is hit at night. Where are the nightwatchmen?
8. d. The South. 45% compared to only 11% in the Northeast. But the southern burglar is rumored to be more hospitable.
9. b. $1600 was the average loss.
10. a. The typical burglar is a white male. 70% are white, 86% are male. (FBI)
11. d and e. By a strange statistical coincidence, the percentage of solved burglaries is the same as the percentage of spot on zestimates: 13% (we’re only joking, of course, about the zestimates—we think you’re more likely to get pinched for burglary than get a zestimate on the money. Just kidding again David)

I’m watching the 11 oclock news on NBC, and they have a story about burglaries…
in the Newark, CA there were 2500+ alarm calls, and only 3% were valid…that’s 75 valid calls in 2004.
Those are some pretty amazing numbers.
