Promote Your Blog with a Blidget

You work hard on your blog and want potential clients to read it. So promote it. Put it on your business cards and marketing materials. Do what Undressed Larry Cragan does and create a blog brochure. (Clever fellow, that Lar.) Or try marketing your real estate blog using a blidget. What’s that?

A blidget is a blog widget. It’s your blog RSS feed in a nice box you design. You can embed the blidget on your other blogs, websites, Facebook and MySpace (and more)– wherever you want to market your blog.

Here is a screenshot of the Sellsius blidget. (I like the interactive scroll bar)

Here’s how to create your blidget. It’s simple.

Go to WidgetBox and click Submit a Blidget, located on the left sidebar.

Simply insert your blog URL, click Continue and create your blidget using the easy-to-follow steps (you see the changes as you make them).

After creation, choose to Publish your blidget to the gallery (no harm there) or keep it private.

Blog Promotion Using Your Blidget

After creation, you can copy and paste the Widget Code on your other blogs or websites.

Or Add your blidget to your MySpace or Facebook account. Go to My Widgets and click Permalink, then click Get Widget. This screen should appear:

Click Add to MySpace or Add to Facebook. [On Facebook, I had to edit to the wider version]

You can also Add the “Get My Blidget” Promo Badge.

Here’s how:

Go to My Widget and click the promote link .

Choose and create your Promo Badge here:

Click “Get Widget” to Add the Badge in the locations below. (Also embed the Promo Badge to your blidget by clicking “Add to My Panel”)

[Note: You cannot yet embed your blidget on your Wordpress.com blog (free version). You can, however, embed it on Typepad, Blogger and your own hosted version of Wordpress.org]

Other similar widgets include Blogrush and Grazr. With Blogrush, you promote other’s blog posts while they promote yours (they have to be in the Blogrush network). I checked a blog that has it. When I clicked to check the other blog posts, I did not see a reciprocal link back. Perhaps others are linking to you. With Grazr, you choose the feeds in the widget reader.

I have been using this for a few months. I have it installed on three blog platforms and have to say it is easy to do and it does send traffic back and forth between my too many blogs. Speaking of blogs, now that you two are back I guess I will have to find a new topic for the weenie.

I’m happy with my blidget and use it on my other blogs to promote Mortgage Porter. I’m contemplating dumping my Meebo, however.

Thanks Teresa for the weenie posts. Who says weenies are bad for you?

Rhonda, we dropped Gabbly chat because it slowed up the site. Why do you want to dump meebo?
