Classic! Reminds me of old school diner days where everyone acts like a complete jackass. I have always held a special place in my heart for those waitresses. It seems that once you enter into an establishment such as a Waffle House it immediately becomes barbaric and you are essentially there, unless you live in the middle of nowhere, because you have to and you know there are certain things you are going to have to deal with. Grease, staring locals, flies, bugs in general, sticky things on the seat, weird strung out people staring at the walls, strange smells and stranger questions that you sometimes don't feel like answering. To battle all of this you laugh, make jokes and do other crazy things. You captured all of this well. Great work!
We had similar comic moments during the tour (like the Kentucky Water Show). The feeling that anything can (and will) happen is part of the appeal, I think, of a road trip. Breaking the routine and venturing out into unchartered waters was emotionally refreshing. And, as the saying goes, all work and no play makes Jack a dull blogger :)
