If you’ve written a lot of blog posts, you probably have a bunch of great ones in your archives. But how can you get your clients, prospective clients and readers to look at your hidden jewels? (stop giggling). Here are some of the options.
One way is the Archives tab or link on your home page (I use Clean Archives SRG). OK fine, but who looks in there? Besides, it’s strictly chronological and there is no organization by topic.
You can also use the “Related Posts plug-in” to list links to older similar posts. Better, but the list can overwhelm a post and display completely unrelated posts. [I know one case where the blogger wrote about a death in the family and the related posts were about dead animals or something– totally embarrassing. (I wrote to the blogger to inform him– he had no idea it happened).]
Here is a third option:
Create a Google search link as follows: site:your blog URL (space) keyword. This will search your site using Google and display the results on Google.
Example of use: “Related marketing (or other keyword) posts.”
Here’s how the reader will see your related post archives after clicking the link:
Benefits:
You get your related post archives displayed in a Google wrapper– one readers are accustomed to seeing. The keywords are highlighted and more information on the post is revealed. Best of all, you look pretty googleicious with all those posts in Google. Granted, you still run the risk of getting unrelated posts, but it’s acceptable on Google. (Besides, it’s better if Google displays the dead animal post, rather than you.)
Tip for linking to your archived PDfs: Use a Google PDf search link like this: site:yourwebsiteorblogURL(space)keyword(space)filetype:pdf
Example: site:realtor.com marketing filetype:pdf. (you get only marketing PDfs on realtor.com)
