The growing trend to recycle materials may be coming to a sidewalk near you. Rubbersidewalks of Gardenia, CA, recycles rubber tires to create walkway squares soft on your joints and friendly to tree roots. They are more expensive than traditional concrete sidewalks but last longer. The savings from trip and fall lawsuits and costly repair of broken concrete walks may be worth the extra money to cities that install them.
The squares, which will come in other colors, can make for a nice maintenance free patio as well. Green is good, even if it’s black.
The sidewalk pictured above was taken in New Rochelle, NY.
